The kipping pull-up is a tremendous movement for us, that capitalizes on developing power from the pull-up movement. Kipping, is a gymnastic terminology, and is highly used in the gymnastic community to get up on the rings or parallel bars quickly and efficiently. Because we CrossFitters are in an endless pursuit of power. And realize that power productivity comes from how effectively you can open the hips, and use that in other movements. We practice kip swings, kipping pull-ups, and developing the kip technique quite often.
In the videos below, Kris and Gloria, and Marc as well, work on developing the kipping technique through practicing the kip swing. Objectively, athletes want to practice actively using the shoulders, and forming a "C" each way with their body. I learn the technique of placing a hand in the front, and behind, the athlete's feet to give them a target to search for from the CrossFit Journal. Another great reason, amongst many, to subscribe to the CF Journal if you haven't already! Such a wealth of meaningful fitness content!!
